This set of pages has what we know now of the history of Kittiewan Plantation starting long before English settlers arrived, continuing into the Colonial Era, the Civil War and the 20th Century. But it is only the beginning of what we will know about Kittiewan as research continues.
The history of Kittiewan Plantation is an unfolding story. Little formal research had been done prior to ASV assuming ownership. What had been done was concentrated on the house, with additional tidbits about the ownership of the land in the 17th and 18th centuries, the Civil War at Kittiewan and little else.
ASV's Kittiewan Mission is to fully research all of the history of the property from the first time people set foot upon it to the time ASV acquired it. Some of the linked pages are sparse and will be updated as we learn more. ASV's research agenda includes delineating the history of the house and interpreting that so that the house is shown as an evolving response to disparate forces and not just a static and dusty relic of the past. Thanks to Mr. Cropper's penchant for keeping the past, we have a wealth of information to go through, abstract the nuggets, interpret the evidence and publish the results. And that's just the paper part. Archaeological research is entirely another but directly related universe of information that is almost totally untapped.
If you will check back over time, the results will be on these pages. If you'd like to help us with the research and investigation, please contact us or come visit.
