Education: The ASV has been a leader in providing educational programs to school systems as well as the public in Virginia. Education is the most powerful and economic tool which can be used to guide the public towards the proper preservation of its cultural resources. The Center provides a facility which will distribute the educational materials and offer public programs on archaeology.
Threatened Sites: We are all aware of the rate of destruction occurring to the state’s archeological sites. Despite the best efforts of the Department of Historic Resources, Archeological Society of Virginia, and Council of Virginia Archeologist to address this problem, many sites are still being lost annually with no data being retrieved. VARC will be an active participant in recording as many of the sites as possible.
Exhibits: The ASV currently has a number of large exhibits which are housed in various institutions across the state. Additionally, there are numerous collections being donated to the society. With the Reasearch Center we will be able to exhibit and educate the public with  many of these collections.
Curation of existing collections an important part of our responsibility as members of the society. Our mission is to preserve those collections what were intusted to our care for future generations. We use the Department of Historic Resources current guidelines as our guiding criteria.
Library and Publications: The ASV’s extensive library is housed in the Kittiewan visitors center and will be accessible to our members as well as the public.   We have many special publications published by the society and will be available for sale in the Visitor Center gift shop as well as on the internet.
